TD Insurance Trip Cancellation & Interruption Plan

This plan is ideal for the occasional traveller who doesn’t need medical coverage but wants coverage for eligible travel expenses if your trip is cancelled or interrupted for a covered reason.
It also reimburses costs to purchase necessary toiletries in the event that your checked baggage is delayed for a covered reason. It covers a single trip, both in and outside of Canada.

Covers eligible expenses for covered events that cause cancellation of your travel plans prior to trip departure.

Up to the amount of coverage you select when purchasing the plan, with a maximum option of $25,000

Trip Interruption

Covers eligible expenses for covered events that cause disruption of your travel plans after trip departure.

Up to the amount of coverage you select when purchasing the plan, with a maximum option of $25,000

Baggage and Personal Effects

Covers the cost to repair or replace your baggage and personal effects due to loss or damage by reason of theft, burglary, fire or transportation hazards during your covered trip.

Up to $1,000

Baggage Delay

Provides coverage to purchase necessary toiletries in the event that your checked baggage is delayed by the common carrier for more than 12 hours.

Up to $400

Accidental Death and Dismemberment Flight Accident

Covers death and dismemberment as a result of an eligible injury sustained during the covered trip while aboard an aircraft.

Up to $200,000

Accidental Death and Dismemberment Common Carrier Accident

Coverage for death and dismemberment as a result of an eligible injury sustained during the covered trip while aboard a common carrier.

Up to $100,000

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply for this coverage if you meet the following conditions:

  • You are a Canadian resident.
  • You are covered by the government health insurance plan of your province or territory of residence during your trip and at the time a claim is incurred.
  • The minimum age of coverage is 15 days old. There is no maximum age limit.
  • A maximum of one person can be insured per policy.
  • You purchased the policy while in Canada and before you depart on your trip and you purchased your travel arrangements through a supplier of travel services1.
  • There are certain medical conditions that could make you ineligible for coverage under this plan.2

Exclusions and Limitations

It’s important to know that benefits will only be paid for eligible expenses and only up to the maximum amount. A complete list of exclusions that apply to your plan will appear in your policy, but here are some examples.

  • Pre-existing medical conditions.3
  • Belongings insured under another insurance policy.
  • Committing or attempting to commit an illegal or criminal act.
  • Loss or damage resulting due to wear and tear.
  • Self-inflicted injuries.
  • Travel to destinations deemed unsafe and to be avoided by official travel advisories.
  • Labour disruptions or strikes.
  • The birth of any child during your trip.

TD Insurance Trip Cancellation & Interruption Plan is administered by Global Excel Management Inc. and its subsidiary, CanAm Insurance Services (2018) Ltd. TD Insurance Trip Cancellation & Interruption Plan is an individual plan underwritten by TD Life Insurance Company (medical covered causes) and TD Home and Auto Insurance Company (non-medical covered causes). Medical and claims assistance, claims payment and administrative services are provided by the administrator described in the insurance policies. Coverages and benefits are subject to eligibility conditions, limitations, and exclusions, including pre-existing medical condition exclusions. Please refer to the Sample Policy for full details.

1. Supplier of Travel Services means a travel agent, a tour operator, a travel wholesaler, an airline, a cruise line, a provider of ground transportation, a provider of travel accommodations who is legally authorized and licensed to sell travel services to the general public.

2. Individuals with the following conditions are ineligible for coverage: travelling against the advice of a physician, have been diagnosed with a terminal illness or metastatic cancer, have kidney disease requiring dialysis or have been prescribed or used home oxygen during the 12 months prior to the date of the application. Please see the Sample Policy for full details on eligibility.

3. This insurance may not cover claims related to Pre-existing medical conditions. Pre-existing medical condition means any sickness, injury or medical condition (other than a minor ailment) that was not stable during the time period specified in the policy. Refer to the Sample Policy to determine how this exclusion may affect your coverage.
